Perhaps to keep people from asking frivolous questions and make sure they contribute by answering things also?

Yes, you lose points. And you lose more points if they remove your questions for violating the rules. But why did you even bother to ask this? It's all right there in the information pages of answers - you know, the pages that you should visit on EVERY site to find out how it works.

And, you know that it's also against the rules to miscategorize things, right? This has nothing to so with fast food. . .

5 points.

I do not know why, but it costs 5 points to ask a question. You get all 5 points back if "NO BEST ANSWER" is chosen. You get 3 points back when you (the asker) choose the answer.

That's the game.

Its to try to control and discourage the lame and stupid questions that take so much space. It really only costs 2 points because you get three back when you pick the best answer!

Probably to avoid people asking dumb stuff because it's free. Imagine if yahoo answers had a ton more of the stupid questions that annoy us and have no purpose

Why? Because we need them answered. This is to motivate you to answer them.

P.S. Just a friendly reminder, this might go better in Yahoo! Products > Yahoo! Answers.
