I have strep throat right now. I began feeling sick on Sat. night. How long is it before you stop being contagious (currently on 2nd day of antibiotics)? Also, can it worsen before it gets better? Anything else you think I should know?

*thanks!

you shouldnt be very contagious if youve been on antibiotics for 2 days, however if you go around someone who has a very low immune system you could still give it to them, strep throat can get worse before it gets better.. you should feel better in 1 to 2 weeks... esp if the medicine makes you grogy... but if you eat cold things it wont hurt as much... and try not to talk because it can strain your vocal cords and cause perminant damage... hope you feel better though

After 24 hours (4 doses) of antibiotics you are no longer contagious.
The cause of strep throat is bacteria known as Streptococcus pyogenes, or group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus.

Streptococcal bacteria are highly contagious. They can spread through airborne droplets when someone with the infection coughs or sneezes. You can also pick up the bacteria from a doorknob or other surface and transfer them to your nose or mouth. Kitchen utensils and bathroom objects are other common sources of infection transmission, so get rid of your toothbrush.
Call your doctor if you don't feel better after taking antibiotics for 48 hours.

typically ,kids are asked to stay home for 24 hours after establishing the diagnosis and once they have had antibiotics for 24 hours, they can go to school which would mean the risk of being contagious is low after 24 hours of onset of antibiotic treatment, good luck

If you're having a fever then after the fever breaks you're no longer contagious. If you're not, you might want to wait another day before returning to your normal routine.

You should be highly contagious with the fever. Don't let anyone drink after you.
