Could be a number of things... but without sufficient info from yourself it is difficult to assess...

Could be: -

Repressed information from childhood
Stress/Tension
Frustration
Impending events
Insecurity
Illness
Over-active imagination
Poor diet
Alcohol/Drugs
Abuse
etc.. etc.. etc..

We all have countless dreams... some of us classify those dreams as nightmares... whilst others do not....It's personal - and particular to the individual.

Howdy Lucy,
Most nightmares are "normal". Most are meaningless. But, some are induced by forces surrounding you. These are the ones that you remember the instant that you wake up and quite often fall back into when you go back to sleep.
It is believed by some dream interpreters that these nightmares are caused by a tainted gift. A "tainted gift" is a gift that you have accepted under a false pretense from the gift giver. This "gift" can be almost anything. It can be a photo, an article of clothing, flowers, jewelry, etc. This gift is offered by someone who says that they want to be your friend, but in reality they desire you physically. Sometimes these persons will plant the gift in your bedroom without your knowledge because the fear that you will reject the gift in person. These people are very good at hiding their "gift". Look under your mattress, behind a book, in a book, in a chest of drawers, anywhere near to you while you sleep.
In any case, you must find and return the gift to the giver and say to them "Thank you for the gift, but I will not be needing this anymore". Do not confront them for you will only get denial. If this should be the case, your nightmares will stop at suddenly as they began.
Buenos Suenos, Pleasant Dreams

Firstly I need to know what night mares you are having, usualy when a person has a night mare it is a warning of something to come or a warning warning you of something.
A dream is a hidden clue of what good thing's to come or good thing's to happen.
Don't ignore your dream's for they can leave you clue's that will keep you going in the right direction or help you make big dicision's.
To have a lot of nightmare's would mean you have trouble's or you are worrying to much about something. If you whant to tell me what your nightmares are I can help you find out of what they mean.so if so tex me a message.

Don't eat cheese late at night.

Maybe you have sad thoughts just before bed.

Could be that you are easy to influence so TV scary stories and films should be avoided.

Are you suffering from anxiety which stretches to interfering with sleeping patterns? This could be deadlines for work or worries about colleagues.

Is your bedroom decorated in pastel relaxing shades, leave a small night light on, it won't cost a fortune in electricity.?

you have a lot on your mind right before you go to bed. you could have also heared something upsetting because what you hear and do during the day sometimes affects what you dream about at night. for example, i watched the news on night and it was about the war in iraq, and that night i dreamed that i was in a town in the middle east and people were setting off bombs- which was scary.
