I just moved to a city that is French but speaks some english. I want to work but it seems that you have to bilingual. My kids are in school and need something to get me out of the house and socialize with others. I am going to learn french by some on-line courses. What sort of things would you do to keep yourself busy and to meet people?

Honestly, going to school is a really good way of meeting people. For your kids, they should find some friends at school and they should be fine. Their new friends can show them around and show them the local hot spots where a lot of people socialize. As for adults, go to your neighbors houses and introduce yourself, make friends with them and you'll see yourself having plans often. If you are a religious person, go to your local church meeting, lots of people there will be happy to show you around and introduce you to more people. Both can always help you with the language too.

well, get busy on learning the language, and go out and make some friends who can speak english, and help you on your french and which will help you get a job.

Get involved with your kids school(s). Volunteer to help with fundraisers, help with teams they're on, etc. (Don't chaperone dances or anything unless your kids are 150% cool with it, though!) Until you learn enough French to get a job, you can "use" your kids to connect with other parents.

Good luck!
