When I lived in an apartment, I put Red pepper on the back side of the counter, behind my canisters and stuff, and it worked. I left it there for a month and just cleaned the counters and left it there. When I had ants in my own house, I bought ant poison at the local Menards and put it all around the out side of my house and it worked.

Dirty rooms attract ants. If you leave clothes lying around or objects on the floor, it gives ants a place to hide and more courage to migrate from one place to another in your home.

Ants come in through doorsills. and make sure your screen doors seal correctly when shut. Again, the chemicals in your everyday cleaning spray are considered quite unappealing to those six-legged heathens.

Vacuum or mop areas where you have found ants. You're probably finding ants in places where food as been dropped. Clean up that food and you will give ants one less reason to be there.
ant baitFood left on counters attracts sugar ants. Ants are attracted to the sugar in your foods. Keeping food in proper containers will descrease a scout's chances of catching the scent.

Take your trash out regularly. Keep your trash bins in a separate facility or far enough away from your house to keep ants from wandering indoors. Again, ants are attracted to the sugars in all of your foods.

they sell ant bait traps a small round can that you punch out the holes , the ants are attracted by the smell. check at your Lowes or Home Depot store.
I tried putting out grits found in the isle at the grocery store next to the oats. this was out side but sure it would do the same inside --they eat the grits and go find water --it causes them to go to the big ant heaven in the sky!

this is a surefire method that has worked wonders for me and others i've told about it.
mix borax (from the laundry dep't) with some sugar, put a spoonful on index cards and tuck them away near where you see ants. you shouldn't see any more ants after about 3 days.

i had a horrible problem with ant colonies coming up through cracks in my porch floor during hot dry weather, and i poured borax directly in the cracks and the have never returned (years later).

borax is dangerous for animals to ingest, so be sure to tuck the cards away from where pets are likely to investigate it. my cats and dogs have shown no interest in it whatsoever.

Old fashion rememdy: seal off cracks where ants are entering with putty or petroleum jelly and springle red pepper on floors and counter tops.

Traps are the only sure way. There's poison they think is food and they take it back to their nests with them. It's a slower process than spray, but it really works. Be patient.

Have you tried COMBAT ant traps? They work great for me. They are harmless to people and pets. I put them in my cupboards and on the floor throughout the house.
