If you mean separate it into different wavelengths (colors), then the simplest is a prism.

A diffraction grating can also be use.

A prism will break up white light into the 7 colors, so will like spraying water or something in the air.

It's called a prism. It looks like a pyramid or a slice of a cake :-)

Another instrument is a defraction grating. Look at a CD - the surface of the CD at fine scale acts like a defraction grating.
