I only have a GED. Will a community or Junior college in or near Los Angeles, California accept me to work on my associate's degree and transfer to a university if I only have received a GED and not a high school diploma?

Yes, yes, YES! Do indeed apply...you will have to take placement exams most likely but then most students do. I am so proud you want to continue your education.

Yes, any community or junior college will accept you with a GED. You will just take some placement tests, and enroll just like a person with a diploma. I actually had 2 nieces drop out of high school because they were bored. They took the GED, and then enrolled for one year at community college, got straight A's and then went to University. A GED is just as valid as a diploma at a Junior college.

In Indiana, a GED is the same as a high school diploma....

Most community colleges have a system in place to facilitate transfers to a University, although I would ask the program director, because some classes will not. (In Indiana anyway!)

Good Luck-

Community colleges are required to accept you! Even if you do poorly on the placement exams that will place you in remedial classes to help get caught up. These refresher courses will not count towards your degree, but it is worth it.

Good luck! The college will look favorably upon someone who has a desire to succeed.
