I would like to argue that profanity doesn't really exist. Only some people found some words undesirable, but for no good reason, and the rest of us who use those words are shun for it. For example the word that describes a male chicken is not a bad word, the word in itself isn't bad. However if you use that word to describe a male body part it becomes bad even though it's the same word. If you try to argue that the meaning behind the word is what's bad, then explain why is it that it's OK to say penis? It has the same meaning. Any word that you can use an euphemism on you shouldn't be able to argue the meaning or context of the word.

Because people learn by their surroundings and if children are raised around people who swear, they too learn to swear. Society has not made any effort to clean up the language and then it gets worse and of course TV, music and movies just add to this problem. It does develop into a habit and then you don't realize you are saying it, but it sure makes you look bad in the eyes of others. If you notice, older people, like seniors don't swear, because they were raised in a different, more respectable generation. Once learned, it is an expression that emphasizes the degree of anger or aggression one is trying to get out, but there are some, like teenagers, who do it because they think it's cool, but it's not.

I personally use profanity to express my feelings or to get a point accross. I do watch what contexts I use it in and I do not make a habit of using it in all conversations- however, each word has its own meaning and I believe the words were derived to be used in a manner that allows the everyday human to add a personal touch to their expressions.

Well honestly, i don't understand how people are offended by 'bad WORDS' i mean they are just words. I could understand if i was directing it towards somebody or using racist terms how it would be offensive, but other than hat they are simply words. I use occasionally use profane language if I feel strong about something and want to get my point across.

People use profanity as an excuse of not knowing English grammar really well. If they run out of words to say profanity is the first thing that pops up in their head, they think it makes sense and they say it. They really don't know how to express themselves therefore they use profanity.

I guess I am really old-fashioned but I think it is not necessary to cuss about anything. My daughter swears like a coal miner and nothing about the miners, just a figure of speach. When she has a potty mouth I just want to march her in a wash her mouth out with soap like she is a little kid and she is 37 and knows better.

Have you ever ridden a motorcycle in heavy traffic, or swung a hammer with all your might, just to miss the target and hit your thumb instead. Or possibly came home from work early & caught your best friend with your girl friend.
I use it just because I can.

Because it is a way of further expression. OK..how about some examples....
OK...How in the blazes dose I'm going to report that get to freaking curse? Not effective at all...now this one...
What the ****!!! How the hell dose that *******, **** headed bastard I'm going to ******* report that, gets to ******* curse! God damn it!!!
See...now that was more effective in meaning. But, we must remember that cursing is strong words...similar to the word "hate". Use it sparingly, and only when in extreme, passionate rage.
Good Luck!

Most people use profanity to express anger,or frustration. IN my opinion it displays a lack of intelligence and an inability to express such feelings
