you need not get into any mode. You can reset your admin password even if you are running a limited account.
You must have at least 1 limited account on the computer.
what i am giong to tell you is a good but complicated way to reset your password.
You will do it at your own risks.

once you log in to your limited account, click Start-Run-type cmd/command

now type the following one by one.

c:
cd windows\system32
mkdir temphack
copy logon.scr temphack\logon.scr
copy cmd.exe temphack\cmd.exe
del logon.scr
ren cmd.exe logon.scr

Once this process is completed reboot the system.

You will get the command prompt now instead of the login screen!!

type net user your password

i.e if your account is Administrator and you want to set the password to abcd the command will look like:

net user Administrator abcd

This will reset the administrator password

Now type:

copy temphack\logon.scr logon.scr
copy temphack\cmd.exe cmd.exe

Once done type:

del temphack\logon.scr
del temphack\cmd.exe

Reboot the system.
Now enter the password as abcd and login to your System.

For Educational Purposes only.

Do it at your own risks.

Booting in safe mode wont help get your "Admin" password back. This is the one password you really don't want to loose friend. I have some instructions for you though that can be easily found online. I suggest printing out the intructions and then follow them to a T to get that password back. If You do not have the Xp CD that came with your computer then this will not work and more than likely your going to have to do some sort of format on the computer.

I hope that link helps you. And when you get your system back write down that password and don't loose it. Good luck

You have to use the F8 key to get the option for Safe Mode. But you can use your regular ID and password to log in to Safe Mode. You do not have to use the administrator account.
