Question 1: Who owns the land that you want to put it on?
Question 2: Who's going to cover the insurance for the park (this could be a sticky point, as the coverage might be high, unless cities don't have to worry about that at local parks, something to ask an agent about).
Question 3: What businesses would be interested in reaching your age group? ie. skake/bike shop, game shop, specialty clothing stores, etc. That's where I'd go for sponsors, who could pay a certain amount to promote their businesses at the facility.

I like your angle about keeping the kids off the street. Call around to some communities that have skate parks. There was one at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, FL two years ago (before I moved). The park director can probably tell you about the process they went through to get it funded/started.

If you've got more questions, let me know. Good luck.

i don't mean to discourage you but there is a lot more involved in just finding a spot that the city to let you open up a skate park. if you do get lucky enough to find a spot that they'll let you do it at you'll run into the problem of insurance. that will be your biggest hurdle. if you have a group of friends that are all willing to put some money together why not find a friend who has a decent size backyard and just build a half pipe. when i was growing up that is what we did. you can even get your parents to sign a waiver just to set whose' ever yard you put it in mind at ease. parents worry about getting sued just like your town will. i hope you have good luck and keep skating...
