If you make the image size and image quality lower, the file size will go lower. It is normal to have images with that size or bigger. I have mine set to 7m.

That is normal. The larger the picture the camera takes and downloads, the sharper the picture and the better the quality.
You can use the Paint program included with Windows to reduce the physical size of the picture. You can also use it to resave the pictures at the same size in a compressed format (jpeg or jpg) that makes the file size smaller. Or you can reduce the physical size and compress the file to make it much smaller. But you will lose some of the clarity and detail when you do.

Lower the resolution of your camera. If you wish to print your pictures on 6"x4" paper, 1600x1200 resolution if fine! You'll reduce your file size considerably!
Also, some cameras has a setting to set the compression of the picture. The lower the compression, the clearer the picture is but the larger the file is. Try to find a setting that is okay for you.
Your resolution will depend on what you want to do with your picture. If you want to do posters with them, you'll obviously need a higher resolution. However, if you just want them to put them on a web site, 800x600 might be enough for you.

Pics are such big files because of all of the pixels in each of the pictures.
