i am 37 1/2 weeks pregnant and i have been having these pains for the last couple of days. as the days wear on, the seem to be getting worse. i lost my mucus plug yesterday but wasnt too worried about it. now my stomach will tighten up across the front and the bottom and it really is starting to become uncomfortable. but i dont want to go to the hospital and they tell me it is false labor, because i am paying for this baby out of pocket, and it gets expensive to be monitored. also, it feels like i really need to pee then i get there and i dont. am i really having contractions or is this the braxton hicks everyone talks about? am i just being a worry wart?

i went to the doctor yesterday and was dilated 1 cm. but ever since i had the cervical exam i have had like a really great pressure in my vaginal area. my contractions so far seem to be about 15- 20 mins apart. i treid eating and drinking something but no luck, and moving makes it hurt more. any other suggestions on what i could do to try to ease them if it is BH?

Were you dilated at all at your last Dr. appointment? I remember with my son I stayed dilated at 4 for a month with continuing contractions (braxton hicks), and then one day I felt like I had to go #2 really bad, but there wasn't anything there. It was actually the feeling of the baby coming down even further, which caused even more contractions. After that, I had contractions that increased in pain until I had to call an ambulance because I couldn't move. You don't want to let it get that far, but I don't think you need to go to the hospital until the pain is almost unbearable. Lots of women choose to do most of their laboring at home, so that should ease your concerns. Even if the pain is really bad, it's doubtful that you'd have that baby right away, so just try to relax at home, and then when the contractions get 4-5 mins. apart with intense pain, you're in labor and can go to the hospital! Good luck! You'll do just fine.

I don't think you're being a worry wart (funny saying eh? ... does a wart really worry? ...lol) It's good to be cautious.

I think they may be Braxton Hicks contractions ... I had them from about the sixth month on, and they got stronger and stronger, as I got closer to my due date. They can be pretty painful ... so it's hard to tell if they're real labor pains or not. I went to the ER two times, with false labor. My OB/GYN said if it happened again ... I'll know it's the real thing if my water breaks or I'm doubled over in pain (comforting eh?...lol)

Is this your first baby? (Babies generally only "drop" with first pregnancies) If so, the baby may have dropped into the birth canal, thus, the reason for the feeling of needing to urinate ... the baby may be putting even more (than the usual) pressure on your bladder.

You can lose the mucus plug anywhere from 1 month to 1 day before you go into labor ... it's really not an indication of the onset of labor. I lost mine a month before hand, with my second baby and 3 days before, with my third baby.

Good luck ... wishin' you all the best ... you lucky woman you!!

True Labor
contractions are regular
time between contractions get closer together
contraction intensity increases
location of contractions are in entire abdomen
tylenol or other pain relievers do not effect contractions
cervical change(you will be dialating)

Sounds like because you have dialated one centimeter you are already in active labor. But I guess since your doc didnt tell you to stay or make you stay, you arent dialated enough. I dont know, I dont understand why your doc wouldnt keep u if ur mucus plug is gone and your baby dropped and u are 1 cm. I guess ur contractions arent close enough yet. Sry I couldnt help you better. Im not that far yet!

It could braxton hicks but If they're coming regularly, once they start coming every 3-5 minutes I would call the dr. Sounds like contractions to me. Not sure about the peeing problem though. It's ok to be a worry wart!! Good luck!

I'm 37 weeks and 2 centimeters dialated
I went into early labor at 34 weeks and was put on bedrest up until I was 36 weeks. I'm going through the same thing my contractions are not braxton hicks.

If the contractions stop with walking , lying down probably Braxton Hicks, but you have lost your plug so that is concerning.Time them but don't wait too long.Best of Luck to you and the little one

You need to time these "pains or contractions". You get a watch time how long each pain lasts and then how far apart they happen. Once they are 5-10 minutes apart and last at least one minute, then I would say, GET YOUR BUTT TO THE HOSPITAL! Congratulations and Good Luck!
