ok great question one i can bite into here . i think anyone who is an american should be allowed the chance to serve their country now haveing said this i am a vet and served before this gay stuff was even talked about . you know back when they asked are you gay and if you said yes then they sent you home . during my stay in military i witnessed a gay that was in military but in closet with this and after his secret got out it was a feeding frizy all straight fellow soldgers beat and ridaculed him and finally he was drummed out with a disonerable discharge from military . point is these gay men who want to be in military are fooling themselves here . the sraight solgers will eat them alive and their service will be a liveing hell. i cant vouch for the wemon but the military has high standards of being straight and you just cant change everyones attitudes over night . i do know this if gays are allowed to serve and yes many will go then . there will be a great number of gay men and wemon who will recieave abuse from fellow troops . i wont say that gays dont have right to fight im saying why the heck would they want to considering whats waiting for them in military .

nope, leave the killing and getting killed to the straight guys, especially Iraq. Distraction? Absurd. What is so distracting? Straight men have no interest in Gay men..where is the distraction. That kind of logic really says there should be no WOMEN in the military, doesn't it? I would think that women would be a greater distraction..so where is the distraction. This is shear nonsense. The military does NOT want gay men in their ranks, and I, for one, am very happy to stay out of them. The military makes gradiose promises at enlistment time, but is short on delivery. Try to make a claim on the US military. Check out all the guys who were gassed with Agent Orange! The military has abandoned them to their own devices. Check out the guys with"desert fever" from the last little Republican war...they are dying, and the military takes NADA responsibility. Age Old story...the military wants you as long as you are useful, then it is "to hell with you." Let the Generals fight the war, Let Bush put on a uniform and go to war. I wonder how long the war would last. It is easy for the brass to sit on their hill and say, "acceptable losses." They have NO ONE in the military to lose. Talk to the families of those who have been lost...see if they would be so anxious to send their sons to war again! I will stay home, but thanks anyway. Good luck and peace.

They always were and just this year a colonel retired after twenty three years in the green berets came out as a post op transsexual to show solidarity with a gay soldier, wounded in Iraq, the military kicked out before he was out of the hospital. I know there are so many TS ex-servicemen who served in Nam and all the wars since the the VA has instituted a medical program for gender disphoria, and supplies hormones and everything else Short of surgery.

I think you would be surprised how many gays already are in the military... and for the MOST part they are not a distraction! The guys that find them a distraction are ignorant and should be the ones not allowed in the military! If anything inappropriate should happen it should be treated the same way as a sexual harassment of two people with different gender. We seriously need to get over this!!

There are some Americans that would love to fight for the country that they love and can just because of there sexuality....the person who made the law was straight and would never have the courage to fight for this country....you will find that most of the people who don't want gays in the military are not in the military and don't want to be....it just doesn't make sense...

There are certainly good points on either side. However, gays are still Americans and the military needs the manpower right now. Why not let able bodied men and women who want to stand up for their country be allowed to do so. We have a son in Iraq right now and I would feel so much better if there was more men and women there keeping each other safe!

First of all gays are in the military today, they just can't be open about it. Sexuality is such a small part of who someone is and it shouldn't play a part in the military. I would think a persons ethics, commitment, and bravery would be much bigger issues than what they do behind closed doors. Gay Americans enjoy the freedoms of this wonderful nation, so why shouldn't they be encouraged to defend it along side their fellow Americans. Anyone who chooses to fight to keep us safe is making a sacrifice no matter if they are gay or straight.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of gays in the military already....they are just confined into this straightjacket of sorts prohibiting them from showing who they are.....which I find really sad.
Gays are just as able to fight and serve, so if that's what they want to do then why should anyone care?
People are saying they would be a distraction because they are afraid of the unfamiliar.

Yes they should be allowed in the Military if they want to serve their country, Why? Because Gay, Straight, Bi, Backwards, Forewards, we are all human beings, we feel , we eat, we breathe, we have mothers, we have fathers, we have families, our brains function forming ideas therefore making our world a better place. Who cares whether or not someone is gay or not, just because someone is does not I repeat does NOT make them incapable of serving their country. They are citizens too. We should respect each other for our differences, and not discrimenate and hate because we are different. Thank You.

That doesn't make sense. If distraction is the main reason to not let gays into the military, why let women in?
