The answer to this question of course varies according to how you define sin, and which faith you adhere to. For instance, most Jews interpret their purpose in life as being to become closer to G-d by becoming more like G-d (although with a recognition that the goal is ultimately unattainable). For the Jew, this is accomplished through hard work - spiritual and otherwise. Similar beliefs abound in the various denominations of Christianity and other faiths. Essentially, the sentiment expressed is usually this: knowing God is the proper purpose of a moral life, and, inasmuch as it's a lofty goal, it requires commitment and hard work.

Sloth is a sin because it is possible to feel guilty over squandering resources.

On the heirarchy of sins, sloth is probably pretty low on the totem pole. Nevertheless, it's a sin

I believe sloth is considered one of the seven deadly sins.
Greed, gluttony, lust, pride, wrath, envy, and sloth. You should see the movie Seven with Brad Pitt.I didn't like the movie that much - too gruesome, but people were being murdered for each of those sins.
