About 6 months old for both my girls.Did you think about making your own? I didn't with my first but with my 2nd girl i did and found it much better and cheaper!
Cook raw veggies and puree them. Add a little formula or breast milk to get the consistancy you like. Put it in and icecup tray and cover with suranwrap. When you need a serving just pop out one cube and thaw in microwave. Before serving to baby stir it and touch it on lip to make sure right temp.
Don't use any salt or sweeteners when cooking veggies. Do this with fruits and berries too.I found it awesome. Convienient and much cheaper and healthier for baby. As baby gets older you can make it thicker.
Always wait 3 or 4 days before introducing something new because you need to be able to pinpoint what food baby consumed in case of reaction or allergy.
I kinda went off topic but Good Luck

Well everyone is correct when saying every baby is different. Your doctors will tell you to go by the book and say it is better to wait but what you should do is keep track of how much your baby is drinking daily at each sitting! I started my son off with rice cereal when he was one month- he was drinking almost ten ounces every 2 hours. He wasnt over weight or anything it was just that the milk wasnt enough I only gave him 1 tablespoon once a day (usually at night- it would fill his stomach and help him sleep) I started giving him jar fruits around 3 months. you only want to give them one kind though for a few days. Because if the baby is to have a allergic reaction you will know what it is from. If your baby is fine on milk alone then I would wait a bit longer- but it absolutly does no harnm to them as long as you aren't over feeding them.

Also if you decide to start your new one on cereal feed him or her with a spoon. Do not mix it in the bottle and cut the hole larger on the nipple on it. Your could be getting too much at once and take a chance of choking.

Congrats on the baby and have fun!!

Every baby is different, with my first child ready at 4 months and my second child not ready until closer to 7 months. Generally, around 4-6 months is probably the recommended time to start stage 1 jars.

cereal(the kind in the box) mixed with formula at 4 months rice first, then the rest Jar food at 6 months veggies first. Try one new food at a time so you know which food it is if the baby has an allergic reaction

You may laugh at this... but I made this decision after much thought and research.

My 1yo daughter never had jars of baby food. I figure if I don't want to eat it, why should she? She was on mama's milk exclusively until about 7mos, but tasted anything on my plate she showed interest in (that she could handle, ie, soft foods, etc.)

When she finally showed real interest, we made everything available to her that we could think of - fresh fruit, avacado, mashed sweet potatoes, etc.

Before we knew it, she was chowing on everything we had at dinner right along with us. She is still on my milk, and eats stuff like: (all chopped small to avoid choking)

Chicken - cooked all sorts of ways
Pork chops
green beans (don't need to cut up much, they slide right down)
pears
baked potatoes
mashed potatoes
sloppy joe (with her fingers, only on bath night! This one is fun!)
spaghetti
pulled pork
string cheese
shredded cheese
Bananas

The possibilities are endless, and it's financially more reasonable to do this instead of buying jars upon jars of baby food. Also, cereal is not nutritionally needed. I tried it, she hated it, I pitched it. Done deal.

Best of luck

We started letting our baby taste baby food and stuff at 4 months old and she started eating real good at 5 months. Now she's 6 months and she loves to eat. We did vegetables first, then fruits and she hasn't really gotten to into the meats. She don't like them.

Cereal at a little over 5 months, Once I went through a few kinds and he wasn't allergic to anything I went on to the next, veggies first about a month later, then fruit a month after all the veggies.

at 6 months you can start them on rice cereal mixed with formula. After you have tried that you can start on fruits or vegetables. They used to have you start with fruits but now they are leaning more towards starting with vegetables since the fruits are sweeter. Only try one for a few days to make sure they don't have an allergic reaction to it & then you can move on to trying another one. Such a fun time! Good luck!
