The average life span for a guinea pig is approximately 10 years so she is still just less than mid-life. Are you feeding her Timothy Hay at all. Timothy Hay is very crucial to their digestive system. In fact they have trouble with digestion without it. A Timothy Hay based food pellet is also very helpful. Timothy Hay should be a daily part of her diet.
Guinea pigs should also be eating up to a cup of fresh veggies a day. They include: lettuce (Never EVER Iceberg though), carrots, peppers, apples, oranges, parsley etc..
The best web site that I know of for all the info you could ever possibly need on guinea pigs is http://guineapigcages.com It is truly a gem of a site for those who love guinea pigs.

First and foremost, 4 and a half is not near the end of her life. I have had pigs live as long as ten years old so don't give up on her because of some number. Second, if she is not pooping it is probably because she is not getting enough roughage. Do you give her GREEN Timothy hay on a daily basis, as in, it is available to her at all times? Do you give her fresh fruits and veggies like leaf lettuce, spinach, parsley, kale, green peppers, apples, carrots, and such? You can also give her dandelion greens and grass as long as it is not treated with chemicals or pesticides.
Guinea pigs are like horses, they are herbivores and need to graze on roughage ALL THE TIME. Otherwise their guts stop moving and they get sick. So make sure the pellets are green, make sure the hay is green, and make sure she is getting lots of fruits and veggies. If she is acting normal she is by no means at death's door so don't treat her like it. She could very well live 3 more years. Enjoy your time with her.

well they usually live to be about 5 but its not uncommon to live as long as 9. is she getting enough hay to eat? and if she is, you can get a mild laxative at your pet store in the small animal section and add it to her water. if shes an old girl she may need a bit of help. you can even add prune juice to her water. but timothy hay is important in her diet.
