SAT tests are graded on a scale from 200 to 800. The average is supposed to come out at 500 for all the kids who take it. Usually it does come out close to that, so 500 for any individual test is average. If you take all three of the sections on the new SAT then an average score would be 1500, right? If you get a 600 on a test it means that you are better than about two thirds of the kids. If you get a 700 it means you are better than about 7/8th of the kids, if you get a 800 it means you are better than about 98 or 99 out of 100. In theory you could get a total of 2400 on the three sections, but that doesnt happen too often.... like, about one kid in a million!.
