A Sweatshirt is a sweater or pullover with long sleeves. Some designs have front pouch or pockets for the hands.

The sweater is formed by the linking of stitches - it’s shape and pattern come from the structure of the garment. If the stitches are taken away there is no form. A sweatshirt has a pattern or logo printed onto it. The pattern has no relationship to the shape of the garment - if you remove it the sweatshirt remains intact.

The sweater is much more complex in it’s making than the sweatshirt, but has a more simple beauty.

Sweaters are a knit and are dressier and sweatshirts are a woven and are casual. Different styles for different occasions. You can find sweater meat in either though. That is always a great find. ;}

A sweatshirt is made out of like "jogging pants" material and usually bulky, so it is more of an athletic/comfy look. A sweater can be made out of lots of things and is usually more form fitting and casual/dressy. My personal favorite is a sweatshirt with jeans and tennis shoes on a cold winter day....:-)

A sweat shirt is a pullover that usually has sweat pants to match, and made out of the same material.

A sweater is a little less casual than a sweat shirt and is knitted.
