As the temperature falls past 60°F towards 52°F, start cutting back the feeding to once every 3 days with low protien food. This caters to the slower digestion rates seen at these lower temperatures. When the temperature falls below 52°F, it is time to stop feeding altogether and let the fish go dormant. The fish cannot digest food below 52°F and the food rather rots in their system.

Koy don't need to eat when the water is below 50 deg. comets and shebumkins and other small fish should eat less when it gets colder
My pond freezes over for a few days to a couple weeks in the winter. You can see them swimming around under the ice, but they move slower. Algae goes crazy when the water gets 50 degrees.
