My fiancee wants to change our last name to that of his step dads after we get married. Can we do that?

It depends on the state, but you can change your name to anything you want when you get married. The marriage opportunity merely saves you the trouble of a namechange judge. You should ask a lawyer to be sure.

It might be easier to have him change his name then get married... If you wait untill after you are married you would both have to go through the process of changing your names ...I am going through the same thing right now and we have decided he will change his name before we get married to save us a big hassel.
I don't know what state you live in but I am in Cali and here there is a lot of work to change names.

Only if the step dad adopts your fiance. My fiance's step dad wants to adopt him so we can carry on his family name, they have no more men in the family to carry on the name...

We've checked in to it & LEGALLY he would need to adopt him. Don't listen to people saying you can just do it; there is a legal way to do it!

Sure you can, it is up to both of you and the court will change your names with a petition.

I'm pretty sure that if you aren't trying to defraud or get away with something, you can call yourself anything you want to.
