The majority of the ones I've met were the most miserable, judgmental, overbearing people I've had the misfortune to meet. I remember being in the rooms thinking, "If that's what being sober does to you, I want no part of it."
I've come to realize, it isn't sobriety, but AA that has made them this way.
I suppose even the dullest in the bunch eventually figure out that they've wasted 10, 20 years in the rooms and it doesn't impress anyone outside those walls. Imagine having the the major accomplishment of your life being staying sober, something millions of people do without thinking about. Even when they finally figure out it's been a waste, they can't leave, they have too much time invested.
AA is little more than religious dogma, repeated over and over again in mind-numbing repetition, and by the time some people come to that realization, they are trapped.
I got sober to HAVE a life, not to sit in church basements talking about how hard it is to stay sober. I would think that would keep the addiction alive, but I really wouldn't know, I'm too busy having a LIFE.

I believe a 'ol' timer, lets say someone 50, who has been going to AA more than one time and on a regular basis is comendable. It is an admirable path to choose.
To answer your question, I would say that he(or she) seems to be very disciplined and set in his ways. Probably uplifting and encouraging, probably tries to preech to the young about life in his own special way. On the other hand from uplifting and encouraging they can be distrot and very discourage over something that may seem a small deal to you but for them it's a reoccurance of a craving.
You have to understand that people who drink alcohol everyday live for it. alcohol enhances your emotions so it seems like you are perfectly happy about everything despite reality, even if it is violence. So when alcohol is quit, In the beginning they will go through a rollercoaster of emotions and after they work out how to stop the roller coaster of emotions from flying up and down out of control they level it out somewhere, they become happy with whatever comes at them, pretty much they are just coasting now through life at this point. However, a vetern AA member will have a more normal emotional being because as we all know just coasting through life is unrealistic.
So I would need more details to give an accurate guess.
