How do they work? Do they really help the enviornment in a big way? I heard that it was very difficult and expensive to make their motors?

Would you buy one?

Thank You

For the amount of hybrids versus oil burners on the road, No hybrids don't make a difference. except in your pocket with the exception of Toyota Pris which is price fixed. the extra cost that the consumer spends on a hybrid while take about 5-10 years to offset the cost versus fuel consumption savings of say Honda civic hybrid verses a regular civic the 2006 Honda Civic Coupe DX 5-Spd AT $15000 get between 30-40mpg and 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid
at $22000 is 49-51mpg how many miles would would have to drive to save $8000.00 in fuel consumption.
How they work is electricity. the cars are heavier because there packing a crap load of batteries and electric and gas engines the car depending on type of system they run either on gas engine with electric motors as supports, or on electric motors and gas engine recharges them. and no as long as my truck hit 18mpg and my car sees 27 I have no use for and hybrid even if gas goes to 10bucks a gal I'll get a new small car. their getting better. give you a quick figure I drive 25000 miles a year in my dodge pickup it average 18mpg think i figure something like 1300 gallons/$3250 at $2.50/gal of gas in 12 months. If my truck were a hybrid at 10mpg more it would have use around 900 gallon of fuel and save $1000.00spending 2250.00 at 25,000 miles a year. The average person only drive 15000miles

I would not buy technology that the battery's cannot keep up with. Motor generator cars no matter how high tech have lead acid batteries back up. Sure you get 60 miles a gallon under the best conditions. Lets add four big people that like there A/C cold and stop and go city driving the gasoline motor will be running all the time. Added weight will strain the micro gasoline motor 1.3 liter. And what about the cost to replace and cost of disposal of the lead acid batteries LEAD is poisonous!

The technology is promising, but right now the high price of the vehicle offsets fuel savings. There are regular gas engines which nearly equal hybrid's mileage. Economically such a car makes more sense.
