They both have shown pretty low reviews in quality. The mitsubishi shares parts with Dodge while the Mercury Cougar is a Ford product, which has poor reliability with its smaller cars. I've heard that Mitsubishi has improved its performance as a company lately, so if I was forced to choose, I would choose a new eclipse. I don't even think they make the cougar anymore...I could be wrong though.

Well, if I had to pick... I would pick the Eclipse. Personally both cars are to small for me. I like the bigger cars. I have a 1979 Chevy Impala 2 door sports coupe... That is my baby.

Really depends on what years you are talking about because in the early 90's they weren't even in the same class, like they are now. If I had to choose I'd say the Cougar, but honestly, neither compare to the Acura TL or smaller, the Mazda 6.
