If the RAM chips are of different brands/speeds this can occur. Usually there's no problem mixing RAM from different manufacturers (Like Samsung and Kingston) but if you're mixing different speeds like PC2700 and PC133 (or sometimes just different timings), then you could be in trouble... Or some of the RAM might just be bad.

The best test is to remove one of the RAM chips and see if the system is fine for a couple of days. Then switch to the other one and see... If either of them has problems on it's own, it's just bad RAM. If they work fine individually but not together, you've just got an incompatibility.

Of course run spyware/adware scans and run scandisk to make sure you don't have any disk errors.

Have you checked to see what is starting up when you boot your computer? Run MSCONFIG and then look at the startup....you may be surprised. And I don't know about being certain you don't have a virus. Spyware and malware can attach themselves in very undetectable ways.

After you do the MSFIG thing, reboot and run some good adware, too, like Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy...both free.

Yes, sometimes manufacturers keys RAM Cards so only a certain brand works on the computer. Did u run a scandisk or checkdisk on yur computer? Cause if u have bad sectors, yur computer may respond slow or unstable. In my computer, right click C drive and choose tools and run a checkdisk. If u tick of everything (which is better) it will restart and run a checkdisk if u so desire. Laterz.

Bad idea to mix-n-match RAM. Many problems with expecially if they are running at different speeds and are different sizes.
