Since 1950+/- a few years - the American Halloween is very different from the original. This new Halloween is safer and friendlier - AND NOT SATANIC!!
Lets make that clear first: Satan is NOT involved any more - (if ever - unknown.)
This is a night for children, and parents to share a friendly spooking. The primary intended age is UNDER 12. The teenagers have their parties, and the adults have theirs.
The worse and I mean worse thing about Halloween is the ADULTS that ruin every Halloween somehow. KEEP THE CRAZY ADULTS AWAY FROM RAISING YOUR CHILDREN!! Some are dangerously stupid - they think the strangest things!
The religious "haunted houses" - BLATANT LIES FROM RELIGIOUS PEOPLE - tricking young children. IT'S WRONG AND SICK. THEY LIE - to get the young children in - ghosts and vampires - NO watching todays horrors, and preaching!!
The mean adults/houses - people know to stay away from those houses. (A few teens take care of these houses.)
Just keep halloween simple and free of adults.
Take plenty of pictures because your children grow faster than you think. You blink and there grown.

A little princess or teddy bear (my son was a fireman 4 years in a row) What do they do - LEARN ABOUT THEMSELVES:
First they learn what scares them and what does not. An older child will even protect younger kids by saying " It's ok - that's fake don't worry" - because they remember from last years scare. That can't be bad!
A little testing of their courage - walking up to the doorbell, talking loud enough to be heard.
Sharing the loot - how is sharing bad?.
Eating a little too much candy - their first tummy ache? hard to believe. HOW CAN THIS BE BAD?
Adults ruin everything if they could.

Since when is Halloween an issue? It is mostly celebrated by children dressing up and going door to door getting candy.

If you are talking about the time of year that Pagans celebrate called Samhain, that's not an issue either. Perhaps you should know what it is first before making judgements.

Samhain is The Last Harvest. The Earth nods a sad farewell to the God (Summer). We know that He will once again be reborn of the Goddess and the cycle will continue. This is the time of reflection, the time to honor the Ancients who have gone on before us and the time of 'Seeing" (divination). As we contemplate the Wheel of the Year, we come to recognize our own part in the eternal cycle of Life.

How is this cultish? Is it because your church says so? (This question is geared towards those who think Halloween is some sort of satanic worship)

PS: Pagans do not believe in Satan and educated Christians do not believe the "devil" junk that is dealt out. I know alot of Christians and none of them have a thing against halloween except my daughters freaky english teacher.

I think it's okay as long as people don't go overboard and start getting into cultish things or something. I also think a "good scare" is okay if that's what a person is into. But I do cringe when parents take their 5 year olds into haunted houses with corpses and all sorts of morbid things. I think that's just too young.

Halloween should just be sweet and cute stuff until about age 12. And even then, it should still be sweet cute stuff unless the person really enjoys it the other way and is well-adjusted enough for it.

Personally, I have never been into scary stuff. I like things that are scary in a THRILLING way -- like a crazy roller coaster. But blood and guts, I'm not into that at all. I wouldn't dress like anything that wasn't nice.

What's the issue? Are you talking about the nut cases who have decided that Halloween is some kind of evil holiday? Hog wash! It is a fun time for all who want to get gussied up and have a good time. Kids love the 'Trick or Treating." Adults have fun at parties. Where all this 'Satan' stuff comes from, I have no idea, except someone sat around with far too much time on their hands and wanted to feel important. Typical of small minded people, isn't it?

oh ! i love halloween...it is my favorite day of the year..
i like halloween because its the only day out of the year where you can just act all together "off the wall"---wearing costumes, playing games, haunted houses, supernatural events, and...Parties. I have always loved halloween and i always will. i don't think it matters how old you are. many people think halloween should just be reserved for children---i think that's just silly. i mean, everyone should have a great time, not just kids. heck, i'm not a kid anymore...yet i still love this holiday and i will celebrate, no matter if i'm 4 or 40 :)

Halloween is my favorite holiday because it is FUN! There is none of that obligatory family get togethering and purchasing of useless gifts associated with Christmas. It's the best, I say replace all holidays with Halloween, we'll do it once a month, I would never get sick of it!!!! My kid is going to be a storm trooper, and I'm considering a Darth Vader costume (if I can find a cheap one)

Well I am a firm believer that it should be spelled right...

I take my son every year. It is fun and I don't think of it any other way.

Ooooh, I see...your letters are already dressed up for Halloween. The O is pretending to be an A and the A is pretending to be an O.

Halloween is my favorite holiday. You get to dress up in anything you want without people looking all weird at you, you know. I honestly believe Halloween was invented for fun, not for worship devils or whatever. I've already got my costume planned out and everything!

I could easily do w/o it. I grew up in a country where Halloween was not celebrated and have a difficult time relating to it. I am all for having fun though but dressing up on this day just doesn't do much for me!
