First, good divorce lawyers are expensive, but not really necessary unless its a contested divorce. If the both of you are in total agreement, you can get forms and do it yourself or get an paralegal, which is a better way and a whole lot cheaper than an atty., and a paralegal does the attys paperwork anyway. He can fill out all the necessary forms, give you legal advice and file forms with the courts. Check your local yellow pages or nearby university with a legal dept. If there are no children involved, then its pretty easy, just settle as you wish and get it on paper with both signatures. Once you get a court date, then after the judge makes his decision, then usually 30 days later its gets filed in public records and your divorce is final. Good luck to you both

From the way it sounds, its a contested divorce. which ability your husband is battling it. if that's the case there is not any way, that i comprehend of, to break up without the files of a lawyer. Your ex will wrestle you for something of your lives if he needs. i'm no longer all too particular what a lawyer does to make a divorce go via even as its finalized, yet I truly have realized from interpreting up on divorce that you want a lawyer to go via with a contested divorce. per chance contact a lawyer for a loose consultation? they'd be able to provide you some concepts as to what you should do. do not problem with criminal help, they are of no help by any ability....it truly is why they are loose.

OK YOU ARE BOTH GROWN AND PROBABLY HAVE CHILDREN AND PROPERTY, I SUGGEST GETTING A LAWYER, EVEN THE BEST OF SPLIT UPS CAN TURN UGLY, AND YOU WOULDNT WANT TO LOOSE THE BATTLE!!!! TRUE STORY...MY SISTER GOT DIVORCED, HER HUSBAND(WHO IS IN THE NAVY AND WHO HAD BEEN CHEATING ON HER) TOLD HER TO NOT WORRY ABOUT A LAWYER AND SAID HE WOULD NOT TRY TO GET CUSTODY OF THE CHILD. SHE BELIEVED HIM, AND BECAUSE SHE COULDNT AFFORD A LAWYER DIDNT GET ONE. THE DAY OF COURT HE SHOWED UP WITH AN ATTORNEY AND WON CUSTODY OF THE CHILD ( SHE WAS A STAY AT HOME MOM, AND SINCE SHE DIDNT HAVE A JOB, AND THE HOUSING WAS ON THE BASE SHE DIDNT HAVE A HOME) SHE WAS AWARDED EVERY OTHER HOLIDAY AND THE WHOLE SUMMERS....THAT WAS 4 YEARS AGO, MY NIECE WAS ONLY 1, AND MY SISTER CANNOT FIND HE EX OR HER CHILD, AND HASNT SEEN THEM AT ALL SINCE............AND THE SAD THING IS THE NAVY WONT HELP HER FIND THEM. SHE IS STUCK, AND MISERABLE I MIGHT ADD

Is it an amiable, do you agree on who gets what? Are there kids at home? yes, have you agreed on Child support? (The Courts can change this amount without your consent) Have you already sold big items like the house? A lot of money involved?

You can try a Paralegal. You only need one if you can trust each other. My Ex and I did and it went smoothly. But, read ALL the pages you get and initial each page!

husband and I are doing without lawyers 12$ for divorce packet at court house, as long as you agree to everything. I did call lawyers and a uncontested divorce is about 1200.00$ and contested divorce started at 2500.00$ I think its easier to agree and not get others involved. I had to sacrifice more but we are less stressed and it does not seem as traumatic for us as other people who are in court fighting over all the details.

Depending on what sort of assets you have you may want to get a lawyer anyhow.

My lawyer suggested that it might be possible for my STBE to contest whatever agreement we made, because she wasnt advised by a lawyer. The last thing you want if for the agreement to haunt you after you thought it was over.

Better with an attorney and you can find one at your local Legal Aid office. You don't want to get raked over the coals no matter how friendly things seem.

It sounds like a good idea- there are all kind of legal ramifications to getting divorced. At the very least, some legal advice would be a good idea.

My son and his ex as of yesterday used the same lawyer and had an agreement before hand and it only cost them 150 each that way.
