if you want to set up a wireless network its kinda costly, well... if you live on a salary like mine anyways. First if you just have a modem, you'll need a Router, and Wireless cards, and you typically want to stick to 802.11g its the fastest and most reliable type right now. When selecting a router and network card/wireless card for a desktop or laptop its best to look at two certain brands; D-Link and Linksys, they do not all need to be the same brand to work also to get into the more specialized features of wireless networks it can take a bit of geek knowledge.

There are a few different setup scenarios for wireless home networks, depending on whether you already have a modem and a wired router.

Please go through the links below for detailed information on setting it up - assuming that you already have a broadband connection with a cable or DSL modem but don't yet have a router, and that your computer is currently plugged directly into your modem.

I bought a wireless kit and although it's supposed to be "easy" to install, I had to get a computer literate friend over to help install it. There are 3 computers in this household and the one that is furtherest away from the wireless modem gets disconnected from the network on some occasions. So it helps to be nearest the modem, not down a passageway and around corners.

What working equipment are you making use of? Is residing house windows dealing with your on the spot networking or yet another application (Dell laptop on the spot does no longer often use residing house windows networking). Are you attempting to hook up with on the spot at residing house? - is the on the spot router setup and configured? Are you attempting to connect exterior residing house like at a coffee save or someplace? Is the on the spot community asking you for a password? There could be a on the spot icon someplace on your taskbar, open on the spot connections, seek for on the spot connection. try putting it up from there.
