Location, near coastal regions or inland.
Relief, near mountains, in valleys or on flat floodplains.
Urban/rural.
Population is usually the most dense for coastal regions, think Shanghai, Beijing. Floodplains, think cities along the Yangtze river in China, and the Chao Phraya river in Indo-China. People also tend to live in urban areas, closer to the cities where there are more job opportunities.
