The group members and their friends used to come up with fictional celebrity names such as "Prince Gnarls" and Bob Gnarley", by using existing celebrities and adding the prefix "Gnarl" to it (I'm still trying to figure out why, but there seems to be no logical explanation).

When one of them came up with "Gnarls Barkley", DJ Danger Mouse wrote it down to use/remember later.

I heard they have some connection to Gorillaz, like maybe they have just used the same producer or one of the members of Gnarls Barkley was the producer of Gorillaz' last album.

I might not be remembering correctly.
