She's right. Annualcreditreport.com will give you a report from each of three reporting agency's free once a year. And if you get turned down for credit, you can request a copy of your report for free from that reporting agency if you read the fine print. There is a time limit though. You can also dispute any errors, thru annualcreditreport.com. I did, and it got fixed. You can even sue, over this. Or at least they will tell you who & how to contact to get it fixed. It's free, it's great. I was overpaying on car ins. because of an error 2 yrs. old.

Annualcreditreport.com will show you three different companies' information on you. If you want your credit score though, you have to pay. Just the reports are free.

before you access those reports too many times, try to find out whether looking at the report will affect your credit score.

My sister worked for a company that did credit checks on people and once told me that every time your credit report is accessed, it has a negative affect on your overall score.
