I always say all is fair in love and baseball. That in itself has inherent errors though. Plus they say if you aren’t cheating in baseball you aren’t trying, so maybe we should stick to the war question?
I believe that if you love something, you should give your all to it. Put your heart & soul into a thing & you should excel at it. But putting your heart & soul into a person, & you're suddenly depending on their acceptance & retribution to see it through. And how could you possibly put your heart & soul into a war, unless you feel you're fighting for what is right, and then you have to assume that both sides believe the same thing.
Maybe Pat Benatar had it right & love really is a battlefield? I prefer to think that love is the family & friends that supports you when you return at the end of whatever battle you’ve faced.

No. Love, war and commerce are the three areas that matter most to us all yet we have all these excuses why immoral behavior doesn't count in those areas. When does it then? When stroking the dog?
