I was 8 when ww2 started.
I soon learned this: enemy : Germans
allies worth waiting for: English, Canadians, Polish, Americans, Australians. How can I forget?

The enemies were Germany, Italy and Japan otherwise known as the Axis powers. Our allies were England, Russia and China.
I do not consider France an ally. They contributed nothing to the War Effort. The French Navy actually fought the British and American Navies during the invasion of North Africa.

What Barretins is missing is that there were actually 2 sides of the French. The Vichy government (led by Petain) that supported the Axis powers and the Free French movement (De Gaulle) which fought along side the Allies. As for not contributing anything, the partisans (Free French) did anything they could to hinder the German war effort just like the Russian partisans did. They also set up an underground to help Allied flyers shot down over France to escape or hide from German forces.

Axis Powers consisted of Germany, Japan, and Italy (under Mussolini)
The Allied Forces consisted of but not limited to: USA, England, Russia, and China

By the time the USA was forced into WW2 by Japan most of the teams had been picked
The main states that the USA sided with were Great Britain and the British Empire, Soviet Union and various free forces from Occupied Europe.
The opposing team was Greater Germany which included Austria and part of Czechoslovakia, Italy (until Sept. 1943) and Japan
