am 16 years old, 5'1", 100 pounds and am described as a "mini-model" at school. Yet, I DO want to play rugby and since there is only ONE team, it has to be with the boys.
Most of my friends think it's suicide. I'm actually interested in a new sport.
I know the basics like, 80 minutes non-stop with no subs and there are the frontliners and the backliners, no "side-arm tackles", no blocking and you can only tackle the ball holder. (pretty good eh?)
So I'm fast and can tackle...but I'm $hit scared!
SO PLEASE! IN DEPTH EXPLANIATION OF THE GAME AND TIPS TO SURVIVE ARE WELCOME!!
Thanks

I'm was a little bigger than you when I played rugby, about 115 and 5'5. My dad is Scottish and Rugby is HUGE in my family, so I just had to join. Rugby is NOT as painful as people make it out to be. The smallest person can take a 200 pound person out, no problem. If you can run, you'd actually be quite good at rugby. You have to have good balance and still light-footed. To survive rugby, just go for it. Tackle the big guys, run for your life and just have fun. The main thing is, get into the game, or else people will just push you down and you won't have any fun. Good luck and have fun!

make sure you have health insurance and /or health card you will need it. You might be a target for extra abuse. Rugby is a very "tuff" game , and at your size may even be dangouers.

The main goal of rugby is not to let someone with the ball get over your goal line - BY ANY MEANS NESSERY.. this means ruff tackles ect.

we are made to play rugby at school, but the girls arnt allowed to play rigby we hav to play 'tag' rugby, so we cant tackle or anything, when we all want to really get into the game. Dont be scared, just be confident and dont worry.

Hey, your not the only girl like that. I am 16, 5'0, and 93 pounds..I havn't died yet ; ) It isn't that fun when you start but, when you get the hang of it and everything it starts to get easier and funner. You probably will gain wight from gaining muscles, thats what happend to me. Now i'm toned. I think you should go for it and try it. You never know if you will like it if you havn't even tried it yet.
~Good Luck~
