Is the C a negative C? If so, I'm lost too.

If not, then C+1/8=1/2 is the same as C+1/8=4/8

C=4/8 - 1/8 which is 3/8

-c+1/8=1/2 subtract 1/8 from 1/8 and 1/2 which means you have to change 1/2 to 4/8 and you get 3/8, but the c is negative, so
-c= 3/8, but
c= -3/8
good luck!

-c+1/8 = 1/2
[ -c+1/8 = 1/2] X -1
c-1/8 = -1/2
c -(1/8) = -(1/2)
c= -1/2 + 1/8
(-1/2 = 4/8)
C= -3/8 replace in original equation

multiply both sides by -8 to get rid of the denominators and the - on the c
gives
8c -1 = -8/2 = -4
Add 1 to each side
so 8c = -3
you can take it from there.

Note: many of the answers so far are not correct.

What is there to figure out that is any different from any other expression where you must isolate the variable?

What would be the easiest way to isolate the variable? Remember - whatever you do to one side, you do to the other. What would you to get that -c by itself on one side of the equation?
