I'm 14, and I started my period when I was about 12. I havn't had my period for about 5 months now, but I do have discharge. I lost weight a little awhile ago..by cutting down on junk food and eating healthier. I weigh 110 pounds when I use to weight around 120. What do you think the doctor will do for me? What could be my problem?

Losing weight can affect your period, however, I don't know if it would do so for five months. Since you are experiencing a discharge, your doctor may check for an infection. (Is that your only symptom?) Some types of discharge are normal and don't suggest an infection, and, then again, some infections (like a yeast infection) are fairly normal occurrences, so no need to get too alarmed about it. Your doctor will probably want to know what the discharge is like - what color, smell, any pain associated with it, etc... and I imagine he/she may perform a manual exam of your pelvis, a urinalysis, and cervical swabs (samples) to be analyzed at a lab. It is terrific that you are going to see your doctor - that is exactly what you should do. Don't worry about the exam. You might be nervous but it will be okay and it is a good idea to try to get accustomed to it, since it's something you will have periodically for the rest of your life and you don't want your anxiety about it to prevent you from seeking medical attention for gynecological issues. Although you likely don't have anything to worry about in regard to your health, even if you did, you are taking the right first step in seeing your physician.

It depends on what kind of doctor you see. The doc might do basic blood work (simple prick in the arm;no big deal) You may have to pee in a cup to rule out an infection among other things and because of the discharge, you may get a pelvic exam and they will be supportive and it is just a part of growing up and no it is not torturous. It's simple and relatively quick. They also may need a pregnancy test which can either be done with the urine or the simple blood test. You will be fine and a nurse or medical assistant will explain things and give you support. Your mother should be there since you are a minor and always insist on a female chaperon. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. You will be fine. You could have a simple yeast problem which women tend to get on their own because of the dark moist vaginal environment or some get it because of a course of antibiotics for another infection in which the good bacteria were also wiped out leaving the yeast to grow out of control. You might have an STD depending on whether you are sexually active. Some women will cease their periods if their body fat level is too low or it could be a hormonal imbalance which can easily be corrected. I am glad you are going to get the help you need. Everything should work out fine.

You could be under stress, hopefully you aren't pregnant, but I would think losing weight would help, not hurt your period. I don't know how tall you are but 110- or even 120 lbs is a good weight, even ideal. Any smaller I think could be unhealthy. You're young and probably want to look like the girls in the magazines that weigh like 3lbs. LOL but don't try and lose any more weight. Build muscles....also, if you've been working out that can cause extra stress on those areas... he'll probably tell you to relax, and, will probably want to do an exam 'down there'. I hate those, they are always embarassing, but they have to be done. Good luck! :)

Darling, you need to speak with your mom or some other trustworthy person (teacher, nurse, other relative). However, you are too young to deal with this on your own. One can only speculate about what the doctor may say. The bottom line is that you need to see one in order to alleviate your fears and deal with the issue. Ask yourself "Is my fear helping me?" Now that's a question I am sure you can answer. Be responsible, make an effort to see a doctor as soon as possible. May God guide you.

your body could be in shock from losing the weight and changing your lifestyle..... but remember you haven't had a period for very long... if they were normal in the first place the doctor may give you some pills to help you start again... sometimes they use birth control to help regulate them better so they are more predictable...

Don't be nervous! If you don't go, you will not find out what kind of a problem you are having! You might want to find female gynecologist. I feel uncomfortable going to male doctor.

Perhaps you have an infection. Go to the doctor as soon as you can.
Try to stay as calm as possible about this. If it's an infection, it can be treated pretty easily.
Good luck to you.

I'm sure you're fine, it could have to do with stress of school, losing weight also adds to the "regularity" of your period. if you are really thin, then you won't have it as often.
