Oh yeah. You have to use substitution method

Yo Dude:
Something is wrong with what you copied down on that
there problem...
Solving the first equation for Y
I get Y = 6 + 2x
Then substituting the value I just found for "Y"
into the second equation you get
4X - 2(6 + 2X) = 5
and
4X - 12 - 4X = 5
-12 = 5 (AND THAT AIN'T SO)

you can use linear combination, substitution, or elimination method.
I will do substitution since you have a faint idea already.
-2x+y=6 - Find out what x or y equals first
y=6+2x - it does not have to be a numerical value!
Now substitute y into the other equation
4x-2y=5
4x-2(6+2x)=5
4x-12-4x=5
Now solve
0x=17
x=0
Now substitute the x vaule in one of the equations to find the
value of y
-2x+y=6
0+y=6
y=6
Now check the other equation with both the x and y value
4x-2y=5
0-12=5
0=17 - wrong
so there is no correct answer!
yea you are right this equation is wrong

take the first equation and solve for one of the variable. Lets do x:
-2x=6-y
x=(6-y)/-2
plug this into the second equation:
4[(6-y)/-2]-2y=5
-2(6-y)-2y=5
i can see from here that the y's are going to cancel, making this problem not possible. are you sure it is written correctly? if so then the answer is not possible

there is no solution . .
to solve this system of equations by substition . . .
solve the first equation for y:
y = 2x +6
then substitute this into the second equation:
4x - 2(2x + 6) = 5
4x - 4x -12 = 5
0x - 12 = 5
since the x's cancel out .. there is no solution . .

-2x+y=6
4x-2y=5
First, get the first to x= form
-2x=6-y
2x=-6+y
x=-3+.5y
substitute in the x= to the 2nd equation
4(.5y-3)-2y=5
2y-12-2y=5
2y's cancel out
-12=5
WHICH IS WRONG
so there is NO SOLUTION
