i'm not a big fan of Stephen King but I have to admit that he wrote some of my favorite stories that were made into movies. he wrote the books anyway, I don't know about the screenplays.... The Green Mile, Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption. If you are not a fan of his horror stuff you still may like these.

Stephen King has written a long list of fun to read, best selling novels, but I'd especially recommend: Firestarter, Eyes of the Dragon, Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis, Needful Things, The Green Mile, and his Dark Tower Series. He is known as the "master of horror", but not all of his books feature monsters of the classic blood thirsty vampire/werewolf/shape-shifter variety. They are all well written tales of good vs. evil with compelling characters and thought provoking scenarios. I'm actually not generally a fan of the horror genre, but I've read all of his novels and short stories because his work is so entertaining (even if some of it scared me). I really like how he incorporates humor and real world fears into his work, like snakes, spiders, and nefarious scientists and ruthless government officials/authority figures.

Stephen King writes great stories. Unfortunately he writes very bad endings. They all seem like he just got tired of the story so he wanted to finish it up as quickly as he could. A story that takes 500 pages to get into really can't be summed up and ended in 5 pages!

Other than it, IT is pretty good. So is Pet Sematary. Thinner was probably my favorite.

I think that he is a good writer because he writes in easy to understand format.Very clearly written, stories that can be easily followed.

I think my favorite of his would be Eyes of the Dragon. Great Medeival story that he wrote after he asked his daughter what she thought of his books and she said they were too scary and gory. As a result, he wrote this one, which is a great story. Still has that Steven King touch.

I think Stephen King is a really good writer, my fav books are It and Pet Semetary, but the books are way better than the movies.

The Dark Tower series are some of the best modern books I have read... you feel like you are there with the characters... you fall in love with the people and you cry when the series is over... fantastic books... but, not for everybody. Some just dont like him... just try him out... newer stuff... not as gory as his old stuff, although that has its fans also

My favorite by far is the Dark Tower series. It is such a fascinating world, and more than half of his other books and short stories tie into it in some way, most notably The Stand, Salem's Lot, and Insomnia.

I'm not a die hard fan, but I've read some of his stuff. I probably liked the Green Mile the best of his novels. I really liked Thinner, but I think that was a short story, not really so sure. Probably his best stuff is what he writes for Entertainment Weekly. That is good stuff.

I love King's works because of his ability to create characters that draw you in and make you care. He also knows just how to scare you: he uses subtly, finesse, and tiny details to really scare you. My favorite has to be "The Shining." The scariest thing I've ever read is the chapter where Danny is playing alone in the topiary garden...and nothing even happens!

The Stand, Salems Lot, and The Shining...after that he should have rested on his laurels...everything else he has written is less than good...but kudos to his ability to milk every cent out of the book publisher.
