I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Both my ankles have been that way for years. Yes it took a very long time for them to heal. I suggest using 99.9% DMSO and rub it on them 2-3 a day. Your breath will smell like garlic but your ankle should feel much better. I don't recommend returning to an active lifestyle as you had before until you no longer need pain relief.

I have sprained and broken both ankles many times. The best thing is constantly icing them. I mean get a cooler of ice water and soak them for a hour a day. To gain strength back I do a exercise called the alphabet, all you do is point out you big toe and draw out each letter in the air from a to z with your big toe once a day for each foot, this improves flex and strength.

It sounds like you had a LOT of soft tissue damage (muscles, tendons, and ligaments). I actually sprained both ankles at once attempting a back handspring (which I obviosly failed at). Since I couldn't really "rest" my ankles, they took a long time to heal. I used a strength training machine specifically for my ankle and that helped. I also used a hot/cold combo therapy that REALLY did the trick. I soaked my foot in a bucket of ice (yes, very cold) for about 2-4 minutes and then immediately took it out and stuck it in a hot whirlpool. It feels like someone is putting needles into your foot at first, but not for long. I left my foot in there for 2-4 minutes (same length as they ice). I repeated this procedure for about 20 minutes. The healing progress remarkable. It is a popular method of treatment in sports medicine and works well, as long as you don't have any pernament damage to your ankle. You may want to get it checked again to be sure.

I had the same thing a few years ago. My doctor had me do physical therapy, and I wore a special brace when I would run, walk and play basketball. It's side specific and made of a fabric and velcro. Ask your doctor about a brace. I can't remember the name of it.

Sounds like you are going to need another MRI. (I'm guessing that you had one to know that youhad torn ligaments) You didnt mention any surgery so I assume that the ligaments were only partially torn and your DR. sent you to PT to try to get them to scar over and heal. They sound like they are not doing that for some reason and Your Dr. may have to do a scope on this to aid them along in the scaring over process. I would ask for another MRI to see whats going on in there. I had the same thing happen to my knee. It's frustrating I know. Hope all is well soon.
