Ok so someone pushed me (4 days ago) and now, my right knee is infected. I put a gauze pad on and now it's all yellow(the gauze pad). What do I do? It has a layer of clear stuff on top.

you should see a dr within 24 hours to make sure you don't need oral antibiotics to treat the infection.

wash it out twice a day with warm water and mild soap (dove or ivory work best), using soaps with perfumes or dyes could worsen the infection and irritate the wound.

apply a thin layer of neosporin to the wound and cover it wit gauze or telfa pads. the telfa pads can be found at any drugstore-curad makes them and they work great. they are designed not to stick to your wound and have self-sticking tabs so you don't have to use tape to secure them to your knee.

if your knee is draining alot-change the pad as often as needed to keep it clean.

report to the emergency room if:

-you develop a fever of 101.5 or higher
-you have red lines extending from your knee to the rest of your body (this indicates that the infection has gotten into your bloodstream and you will need i.v antibiotics asap to treat it)
-the wound is draining an excessive amount (you're going through more than 2 gauze pads in an hour)
-the drainage changes to a green or brownish-yellow color
-you become lightheaded,faint, or confused

these are all signs the infection has worsened and is now spreading to the rest of your body-you will need i.v antibiotics to treat it.

make sure to get into to see your dr-infections can turned nasty quickly and they spread rapidly as well...

good luck to you

clean it, twice a day, with peroxide. change out the gauze. or clean it daily with iodine. if it gets much worse see a doctor. that ICU nurse had some good info also.

Clean the infected area with Hydrogen Peroxide or Isopropal Alcohol and keep clean. If you have a can't guarantee it being clean, put a bandage on it.
