I am still having cravings and from what I've been told they will never go away. I find smoking to be a social thing for me. I don't smoke in my house, so I really enjoy going to my friends with a coffee and sitting there and smoking. I really think I should start again.
Please don't say "don't you have done so good!" It is all I hear and it is a little patronizing. I know that 3 weeks is a long time and I know it is better for my health not to smoke, but I really enjoy it! I don't do anything else that is bad for me, and these days even refilling your water bottle can give you a disease!!!!!! Maybe I am just venting??!!

Yep, you're venting and looking for validation to start again. Patronising or not, you have done well and believe me the cravings do go away - trust me on that.

Not much else I can say - you will make you own choice either way - but if the only thing you miss about smoking is that it goes well with coffee and a natter - don't drink coffee and don't natter.

Get your friends out for a chat while you're walking or getting some exercise instead and make that a weekly catch up - might be a solution for you

Yep, my guess is that you're venting. All quitters have to go through it. I stopped smoking after I had a quad bypass heart surgery. I quit for 6 months, but got really frustrated one day and ended up not giving a sh.. about anything or anyone - I grabbed a pipe and lit up. I haven't stopped since. Bad mistake. Granted that a pipe isn't as bad a cigarretes, but my heart is definitely NOT thanking me for it. I'm fighting my way out of depression and having a little success with lots of help from friends and my therapist. Maybe I'll be able to quit again soon. BUT you can't say you've ever really quit smoking if you take it up again! It's an insidious thing - the addictive mentality actually makes you think that you just "like" to smoke. NOT.

So my advice is: Vent all you want. And then vent some more. And know that you'll be better off for having stuck with you decision to quit. My father smoked - he died at 50. Two of my uncles died early too - they both smoked. All of then had heart disease. So what's wrong with me?? Why can't I take the hint to heart, so to speak? I just "like" to smoke my pipe - I enjoy it. And I don't hurt anyone else in the process. Yeah, right!!!

I have smoked off and on for twenty years, my parents both smoked when I was growing up, almost all of my friends smoke. I panic if I am low on smokes. It is a nasty, dirty stinky habit. I am putting myself at risk for lung cancer, lowering my immune system and my clothes, hair and house smell like smoke. Money is literally going up in smoke. Why do I continue? I don't want to quit right now. Three weeks, your body is probably through the worst of withdrawal, it is all in your head now. Keep your hands busy doing something else. If you obsess about it, the cravings won't stop. If you decide to start again, you can always quit again.

Have you tried the patch? If you've gone without cigarettes for three weeks then you need to develop other habits or routines . It sounds as if you miss the routines of smoking (after dinner, with a drink, in the car etc.) What other habits or routines could you substitute? It sounds more like you're having emotional withdrawal pangs than anything else.

As I'm sure you already know, smoking can cause lung cancer. Don't you want to live longer?
I'm on a diet right now, trying to lose some weight. I still want to eat lots of food all the time, but I just think about how much better looking i'll be and how much healthier I'll be if I keep going. I enjoy eating, but will it be worth it to diet and excersize? Heck yes!
And using your WILL POWER NOT to smoke will be worth it for you in the long run. You can control yourself. Just like i can decide not to eat, you can decide not to smoke. It's hard, but you can do it! Just keep your eyes on the prize--life. :)

It sounds like you don't want to hear any stop smoking advice from anyone. You appear to be in denial. How about some old fashioned reverse psychology? Please continue smoking. It is very good for you! Yellow teeth and bad breath are what the guys really like. You'll have plenty of friends who smoke also hanging out in smokey barrooms and hospitals. You will look really cool when your skin wrinkles prematurely. I hear that coughing up phlegm every morning isn't all that bad either. Spending your money on cigarettes is a great investment, you don't really need that money for other things do you? Your future children will be very proud of you for smoking. Heck, they may even follow in your foot steps! Yes, please smoke!!!!

If you don't have to have a smoke every couple of hours, and you only smoke in social situations, it's not that bad. If you smoke more than 1 pack a week, then you have a problem and need to cut back.

I am a smoker, and I have quit in the past just to restart. I am not going to tell you not to start back up. And I am not going to tell you that smoking is bad for you. I have no right to criticize for something I myself do. If you want to start back up then no one can or will stop you no matter what they say.

I will say this however, if you want to try and quit later on again it is much much harder to quit after starting back up. So weigh your options heavily and decide is it worth it to start back up... If you feel it is then do it because like I said you have to make your own mind up, we can not do it for you, and no matter what we say you are going to what you want anyway.

So happy smoking or Not!!!

Please don't start again! You've come this far...congradualtions.; If it continues you won't get emphysema and practically ALL smokers will get emphysema...if lung cancer doesn't kill them first...Wantto know what happens with emphysema? You loose the elastic recall of the alveoli in the lungs. That means though you may be able to breathe in, you won't breath out....you will have to eventually use the strap muscles of your neck to force the air out while steadying yourself with your arms against the wall or furnitue...want to spend all your breaths that way? How would you sleep? Sorry, you wouldn't be able to even sleep much that way. if at all. and the blood gases...you wouldn't be able to get rid of all that CO2 that you would normally breath out...will change the pH of your body and cause all sorts of other problems...you will die a horrible and slow death...I don't wish that on you because I know you can do it. Keep breathing the fresh air friend...and soon you won't b e thinking about the horribly sticks again..
