It just sounds like crap recording on cassette, and I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a really great computer recording program that I could use instead of the tape player. I want things to sound clear and just great, so thanks for the help!

Yes. Nothing wrong with suggestions above. I would add the Cubase program as another well regarded home recording option, and Acid Pro 6.0 is very good for the money. You can check out http://www.tucows.com for free demo versions of various recording softwares, also freeware and shareware programs. Good luck.
Oh yeah. A book. 'Home Recording for Musicians- for dummies' will show you how to get the best from your computer.

You have many options!

On the inexpensive side, try Cakewalk's Sonar Home Edition

Moderately priced, Sony Sound Forge

Expensive, for macs, go with Logic Pro
For PC's, get Cakewalk's Sonar Studion Edition (this has 5.1 mixing suite, very cool)

Are you recording CD to CD or live sound to cd?

If live sound to CD for editing music you made yourself you'll want Sound Forge by Sony (originally made by Sonic Foundry). I now do all my remixes using Sound Forge but it ain't cheap around 400$ it's a professional music editor.

For recording CD's onto your PC to burn to CD there's hundreds of programs for that...your PC comes with a free one.(Media Player).

But for professional sound editing you'll want Sound Forge...maybe Cakewalk.
