My dogs don't all eat their own vomit, but two of them do. They seem to like it. None of them eat their own poo, but all of them love cat poo. I think it tastes like cat food, probably. Maybe it really is better the second time around.

its an instinct to do so because they don't want predators to find them. That's the same reason female dogs eat the birth fluids and why some dogs eat their own crap. Gross, but its a survival thing.

It's in their nature to feed their pups by gorging themselves and then regurgitating the partly digested meal, which is easier for the pups to digest.
They also share the regurgitated food with the pups,
