Why is it if celebrities get in trouble in the law, it does not affect their careers, but if the average person gets in trouble with the law, it could affect not only their career, but their way of life as well.

Because there is no such thing as bad publicity. Celebrities are in fields where the more people who know your name, the better you are considerd to be (i.e. "fame"). An arrest just means more attention and exposure, and hence more fame. For the rest of us, fame has no bearing on our jobs one way or the other. So all an arrest does for us is make us look untrustworthy.

YES YES YES!!! I LOVE to hear about them getting into trouble, since it shows the stuck up snobs that they are STILL just as human as the rest of us, and that the luck and small talent they managed to use to get into the spotlight is not always enough to get them out of trouble. Isn't it ironic that the luck almost always outweighs the talent when it comes to celebrities?

It does, where have you been? It may not be directly, but when an actor/actress fudge up they are totally in the spotlight. Even though they don't have a "boss" persay, they still have future deals that may get messed up bc of their bad publicity.

because a celebrities "career" is to be famous. Any publicity, good or bad, adds to their fame which, in turn, contributes to their career.

All publicity is good publicity. As long as they keep their names in the papers, no one will forget them.
