Yes there is such a thing as an honest politician, but America does not seem impressed by honesty. They are impressed by the guy that tells them what they want to hear whether its the truth or now.
I'll never forget back a couple of decades ago we had a very honest president by the name of Jimmy Carter. He had inherrited a huge federal deficit from the previous Ford Administraion. He tried everything to stimulate the economy but every step of the way, the huge Right Wing corporations fought him tooth and nail, because Ford had given them so much power.
When election time rolled around President Carter told it like it was. He said that he did not have a plan to boost the economy.
Ronald Reagan, the actor turned politician, and the same man that signed the bill legalizing abortion in the state of California when he was governor, told America that he had a plan to boost the economy. He won the election on this platform.
The day after the votes were tallied and it was decided that Reagan would be the next president one commentator asked him what his plan to boost the economy was. His answer? "I don't have a plan." The comentator then said, "But Sir, you said that you had a plan while your were campaigning for the presidency." Reagan's answer? "Anybody running for president would have said they had a plan whether they did or not."

They would be an endangered speices --if any still exist. I believe many politicians start out with great intentions. I think I would prefer to vote for a politician who does not share my EVERY view, but will at least tell me what his/her views REALLY are --and not just what they think will get my vote.
I am pro-life and prefer a pro-life candidate, however if MY pro-life candidate and I are FAR apart on other issues of importance, and the pro-abortion candidate share more of my other views, I'd weigh the options before I voted. I'd be furious if 'my' candidate said they shared my view on certain issues and then voted against the legislation we we're both supposed to be in favor of.
Does that make sense?

They are rare but as this gentleman pointed out, they do exist.
Kermit M. quoted:
"We are all corrupt in one way or another.
But Missouri Congressman Jim Talent does stick out in my mind. Back in '94 he started as a freshman during the Gingrich Revolution.
He tried to refuse the $200K money for a personal staff in Washington. He said, "I don't need it and don't plan to stay in Washington all the time." He got shut down by the good ol' boys in Congress and told to get with the program.
Talent showed that he had a conscience, but of course committee membership is based on how well you play the game and if you can't get on the right committees....let's just say you play 2 innings and be cut..."

There is some honesty in all politicians and there is some dishonesty in all politicians. No one's perfect and no one is perfectly evil. Politicians are only human.

They seem to be an endangered species these days. Probably 95% of them are the biggest crooks on earth.

Not if they want to be successful. Tell voters the truth, and they get really pissed off, and vote for the turd that promises them what they want to hear.

probably, but since we won't vote for anyone who tells us the un-adorned truth, there are probably few SUCCESSFUL honest politicians
