The "in" styles right now aren't particularly flattering to most women. Here's a few tricks for a similar look, but it flatters the average figure more.
Skinny jeans only look good on the toothpick models. The tapered legs just make your hips and butt look big. A great alternative is a stretch jean with a straight or boot cut leg. It's less of a flare than the popular styles that were in before, and it's still gives that long and lean look.
Leggings are in, but they don't look the best if your legs are less than perfect. If you choose to wear them, find a skirt or shorts that fall around the knee to hide hips and thighs better. Only about half of women today actually like the leggings look, so you won't be sadly outnumbered if you choose to skip them all together.
Wrap dresses and tops are big, and they are about the best thing this fall. They look good on most any body, and come in so many styles and colors that you almost can't go wrong. For an all purpose dress, find one with 3/4 sleeves, and a flirty flare or swing to the skirt. You can dress it up or down depending on the occasion and time of day.
The hottest colors are neutrals, red, and animal prints. Neutrals (gray, black, white, tan, beige...) tend to wash out most people's complexions. Pair them up with some colors. Red can be overly bold, tone it down with black accessories. Animal prints should be worn sparingly with one piece of clothing, or two accessories. If your top is an animal print, then nothing else should be. If you are in a solid color outfit, then your shoes and purse can be an animal print. Too much animal looks like you are wearing the animal, or trying to be one.
A big hit this fall is a wide belt to show it off. If you have a great waistline, then chinch it in with one worn snug. If your waistline isn't the best part of your body, then wear long shirts untucked with a looser belt that hangs low on your waist instead of hugging it.
Boots are always a big hit, this fall the taller boots have stayed in style. Mid calf and knee high heeled boots from the past few years can be drug out and worn again.
Go to your local mall, look in the trendy stores at what is on the racks. Try on as many items as you like to see what you think looks best on you. Then you can copy that look for less, if you aren't planning on buying a whole new wardrobe. Only buy one or two things to start with, add them to what you already have in your closet. New trends can take a while to catch on, so you won't be the only person that has a wardrobe left over from last year. Styles change every 10 years or so, and it just so happens that this fall was the time. Not only can it be impractical, but it's expensive on women today. So wear what you like, and add as you an afford. Don't sweat it if you aren't the world's best dressed woman.

I heard that shirts made of newspaper will be in style.
Pair it with some orange jeans and some construction worker boots, and you're set!
