Over the top gimmicks are great if done properly. Boogeyman was awesome because of the worms and the gross out factor which wasn't involving blood and didn't have to be censored.... the zombie? not so... Do I care for the vampire? Nope! Ain't watching ECW because of it. Hassan was even a great gimmick but just do one terrorist homage and see your career go down the toilet.
Gimmicks are the hooks that catch the audience's imagination and we want to see more, but we need fresh ones. Cryme Time appears to be another set of hilltop rejects, but they may go over. Keep in mind, gimmicks are sometimes distorted mirrors/magnifying glasses of the truth.
Mordecai? A gimmick can go over if done properly and the actor has the charisma to pull it off. I'm waiting for Vinnie Mac to give us Neo Stazis with shaved heads, leather boots, and nazi insignias---that's going to bowl everyone over and I'm positive he's thinking about it.

Mountie, I don't think that really would work with La Resistance, even thought they are in other shows... I think you forget Million Dollar Man, George "The Animal" Steele, Repo Man and Ricky "The Dragon" Streamboat... those can be re-done with new faces, even though Million Dollar Man fall to JBL. George "The Animal" Steele would go to a new wrestler. Repo Man, would go to other new guy. Ricky Streamboat's closest wrestler is in TNA and he is Senshi aka Low Ki... oh yeah I forgot El Matador, Tito Santana... for that you have to get a great Mexican or Hispanic to be good and go against someone of the caliber that will be the newcomer to Streamboat's gimmick.
