Here in Wisconsin, we are social guinea pigs for economic, welfare, and education reform.

would you like to thank the state of Wisconsin for taking risks so you don't have to?

In Milwaukee, welfare reform (the W-2 program) has been riddled with graft and corruption. But it did get a lot of people out of the hammock, or as the liberals call it, the safety net. So that experiment was at least a partial success.

Milwaukee has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the country, so the social experiments to fix that little problem are dead in the gutter.

The public school system in Milwaukee is good for crap. Their truancy rate is around 40% to 50%,Maybe higher. The "teachers" don't teach, and the "students" don't learn. The charter schools also have big-time problems, and some are being shut down. Some report that their enrollment is 350 kids., and the state pays them on that basis. But the true enrollment is 195. So the school is screwing the state out of money to educate 155 kids. This happens quite often.

Outside of Milwaukee, there are some excellent school systems.

The university "System" pays employees while they are not working. They need to "reform" it back to the old way of doing things, where employees get paid only if they work. The UW does have some great research programs in its technical disciplines, however. Much of that is experimental.

There are 5800 car thefts in Milwaukee every year, along with122 murders last year, and God knows how many rapes, burglaries, thefts, robberies, and non-fatal shootings. So the reforms in the criminal justice system (extreme probation, etc.) haven't worked real well.

It takes the right people to implement the right reforms. Wisconsin, especially Milwaukee, doesn't have that. Instead, we have some state senators and assemblymen in prison, and a govenor who is a prostitute. His johns are the teachers' union, the road builders, and casino gambling interests, among others. He "services" them, and they put the big bucks in his campaign fund.

Many companies, big and small, are staying away in droves, and building in neighboring states. Our taxes are kind of high. The noble experiment with high taxes is not working.

Yep, you outsiders owe wisconsinites a lot. Pay at this window, so I can pay my taxes. Our state motto is "Forward" That's fine, but we are heading in the wrong direction.

Thank Tommy Thompson. Wasn't our nation lucky when he became Secretary of Health & Human Services in GW Bush's first term?

Or not!
