we live almost in the boonies, and I'd get a roof top antenna if that would help.

Yes, an off - air antenna would be good if your satellite co. doesn't carry your local channels. You can actually hook up the antenna to your receiver, just ask your satellite tv provider.

I don't know about your location but in MI, directv has local stations for an extra $5 a month. give them a call at 1-800-directv.
If you have dish network or any other satelitte I can't answer, but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

If you want to catch up on news, just go to a website. If you want streaming broadcast, just do an internet search. There are also services like saltwaterchimp.com and others that use Winamp to stream popular shows. Or find a hobby so that you don't have to waste time sitting in front of the TV anyway.
