I'd really like to be more of a "morning person," but I can't seem to get my butt moving in the morning. Also, I can't ever seem to fall asleep before midnight, even if I take sleeping pills. Is there a way to change my ways?? I am open to all helpful suggestions. Thank you!

The pills I occasionally take are Benadryl for the sleep aid in them.

I used to be the worst morning person there was...I think. Waking up in the mornings is never fun but you can make it allot easier by:

Drinking something that will get ya going, like; Spicy V8, coffee with plenty of sugar or just allot of water.

Try taking a shower in the mornings. It seems to waken the ones that are hard to awake...me for example.

Wake up 45 minutes earlier that you need to just to give yourself time to adjust to your normal wakening hours. I always wake at 5:20 am when really I need to wake at 6:00 am. I drink my coffee and relax, giving myself time to wake up.

Eat a good breakfast. I like oat cereal, it's quick and easy.

Leave things to do in the morning, such as signing papers (kids folders) or if you are younger, one last question on your homework sheet. This gives the brain a big surprise and helps it wake up.

Try these things! By the time I go to work, regardless if I have had my 8 hours or 2, I look like awesome and feel that way. You would never be able to notice that I am crabby in the mornings and little by little it seems to get better!

Hope this helps!

Stop taking the sleeping pills because you are only replacing one problem with another one. It sounds like you have a habit that you would like to change and most habits are difficult to break but if you're willing to make the effort I suggest you do what you don't feel like doing until it becomes what you do feel like doing. In other words, for a season, retire early every night and get up at a pre-determined time each morning whether you want to or not. Don't allow your feelings or emotions to rule your life because your body is in somewhat of a "comfort zone" which will definitely prove resistant to change. It might take a couple of months but if you are firm with yourself you will become the morning person you want to become. Remember, you must really try hard and stick with this program. You will be glad you did. Good luck.

You have to train yourself. I'm a night owl myself. I had to trick myself. Because I can't go to sleep anytime before 3am. So I put green table cloths (plastic ones) up to my windows of my house. I also put a thick blanket up to my sliding glass door of my bedroom. I hung christmas lights the white ones in my room to make it more soothing. I put on thunderstorm/whale to help me sleep. Then I would set my alarm about an hour early to get myself together. You're still a night owl to your heart but this way you are a functioning morning commuter.

I use to do a lot of international travel. This time change often upset my internal "body clock" aka Jet Lag. Here is a tried and true method for resetting the internal clock, which you may want to try to make yourself more manageable in the morning. Check it out:

Yeah, I think you have to train yourself to become a morning person. Set your alarm for a reasonable time, the same time everyday including weekends. Force yourself to get up and do something you enjoy. Have coffee and check your email or go for a walk or something. Eventually, you might find yourself enjoying having the extra time in your day.

if u want to be a morning person, you've got to get up earlier in a gradual way, maybye 30 min. earlier each day. but don't give up in the middle.

plan things earlier so you have to get out of bed and soon enough you'll be tired enough to sleep before midnight
