I would check out the movie Sybill, I think that's how you spell it. It's a true story about a woman diagnosed with multiple personalities.

There are many well-known resources out there, and many people will point you towards those, but here's one that may not be well known: Ken MacLeod's "Fall Revolution" Series, in particular the 2-4 books talks about mind and what could happen if it could be recorded and transferred.
